What is Naturopathy?
Naturopathy is a holistic system of healthcare that combines a range of natural therapies such as nutrition, herbal medicine, Traditional Chinese Medicine, Bach flower remedies, Ayurvedic principles, tissue salts, and homeopathy— and if needed using functional laboratory testing to get to the root cause of any health imbalance. Alongside lifestyle guidance such as managing stress and sleep, naturopaths help guide the people they work with towards optimum health and wellbeing.
Naturopathy acknowledges that everyone is unique, and therefore this way of working promotes a highly individualised approach to treatment.
Naturopaths recognise that the body possesses a profound and inherent ability to heal itself. Central to naturopathic philosophy is the belief that nature is not only powerful, but wise. By observing and aligning ourselves with the natural world -its rhythms, cycles, and laws - we begin to restore harmony within.
Human beings are after all, part of nature. Our bodies are not separate from it, but made of the same elements, governed by the same principles, and deeply responsive to the natural environment. When we honour this connection - through nourishing food, restorative sleep, fresh air, sunlight, movement, and emotional balance - we lay down the essential foundations of health.
Naturopathic treatment focuses on creating the conditions that allow the body’s natural intelligence to do what it is designed to do: heal. Rather than suppressing symptoms, naturopathy aims to support the body’s own healing processes by removing obstacles to health and reinforcing the natural systems that maintain balance.
The Core Pillars of Naturopathy
-
Nature heals
Living in alignment with nature is not just a lifestyle choice—it is a return to our origins.
When we remember that we are nature, and live accordingly, the body responds. Balance is restored, and healing becomes not only possible, but inevitable.
-
Root cause approach
Naturopathy seeks to identify and address the root cause of illness rather than simply suppressing symptoms.
Rather than offering temporary relief, this approach promotes true, long-term wellness from the inside out.
-
Treat the person not the symptom
Symptoms are seen as the body’s way of communicating that something is out of balance—they are not the disease itself.
By exploring underlying factors such as poor nutrition, stress, toxicity, or emotional strain, naturopathy aims to support the body’s natural healing processes and restore lasting health.
-
Life hygiene is key
Naturopathy emphasises that true wellness cannot be achieved through remedies alone; it requires conscious, consistent choices that support the body’s natural rhythms and needs.
By cultivating a lifestyle that aligns with the principles of nature—regular movement, nourishing food, restorative rest, and mental balance—we create the conditions in which the body can thrive and maintain long-term vitality.
What to expect in a naturopathic consultation
Whether you prefer the comfort of your home or the personal connection of an in-clinic visit, I offer naturopathic consultations both online via Zoom and in person at my herbal clinic.
Before your first consultation, you’ll be sent a detailed health questionnaire and food diary to complete. This allows me to begin building a clear picture of your health, lifestyle, and nutrition even before we meet.
The initial consultation lasts 90 minutes and is an in-depth exploration of your health. We’ll discuss your current concerns, past medical and family history, and go through each body system to identify imbalances and uncover underlying causes. This session is designed to give you the time and space to feel heard and supported, while allowing me to gather the information needed to create a tailored plan that supports your body’s natural healing capacity.
Follow-up consultations are 40 minutes and focus on monitoring progress, making adjustments to your plan, and continuing support as your health evolves.
If you choose to visit me at the clinic, your session will also include traditional naturopathic diagnostic techniques, such as:
Pulse and tongue analysis*
Constitutional iris analysis*
Blood pressure monitoring
Palpation and auscultation (as appropriate to your condition)
* Online consultations also include tongue and iris analysis though I may ask for images to be sent to me prior to our call.
I may also recommend additional testing to gain a clearer understanding of the underlying imbalances
contributing to your symptoms. The cost of this is in addition to my fee though I will interpret the results.
If needed and appropriate this will be discussed with you during your consultation.
After the session you will be emailed a detailed yet naturopathic plan broken down tailored specifically to you.
This can include diet and lifestyle adjustments, nutritional supplementation, homeopathic remedies, tissue salts and
flower essences as well as herbs to support your unique health needs. The plan will be broken down into clear, achievable goals,
making it easy to follow and integrate into your daily life. Any further testing will be available to add on at a discounted rate.
Your prescription will always be discussed with you in your session.
If you have booked a herbal consultation we will discuss which herbal medicines would be appropriate -
tincture, powders, balms or dried herb blends.
Herbal medicines are not included in the consultation fee though these will be discussed and agreed during our session.
Once you have had an initial consultation and are a registered patient, you are welcome to purchase herbal preparations,
Bach flower remedies, homeopathy and tissue salts from my dispensary for acute or first-aid support as needed.
This also includes detox and seasonal cleanse formulas.
